Happy Birthday Christopher Todd

Chris today is your birthday and we’re so proud of you and everything you have accomplished. Today you are 15 years old and we can’t believe the time has come. We still remember the day you were born like it was yesterday. Now you may think that’s silly but it’s so true. We will remember that day forever. It was special and we were excited to see you and hold you.

You know my special story and it’s one I remind you about every year. I was the first great grandchild born on my dad’s side of the family. I happened to be born on my great grandmother’s birthday and that was so special. When you came along you were the first great grandchild to my dad’s mom and once again the tradition carried on and you were born on her birthday. That’s special to me as well.

Now you’re in high school, you have good grades, you’re on the football team, and you’re turning into a wonderful young man. We love spending time with you, watching you play sports, and now we get to add one more thing to the list of things we’re privileged to watch you do and that would be driving. We know you’ll be a good driver and we can’t wait to have you drive us around town. :)

Chris, dad and I love you so much and we’re so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. We look forward to the coming years, watching you play football and everything else you plan to do. We look forward to your driving years as well. We’re proud of you and we love you buddy. Happy Birthday!!

Family Mexican Night

Family time is important and a must in today’s society. Peer pressure is so hard for children to deal with and sometimes they may feel there is nobody there to help them get through it. When you spend time together as a family; talking and laughing, they’ll feel better about things and they’ll know you are the one they can come to for help and guidance.

Family night can be anything you want it to be and you can serve any type of food you want, so you’ll have the ability to do what you want. Family Mexican night is one suggestion for you to consider and it’s a great way to enjoy the company of your family. Here is a suggestion for your family Mexican night.

The games you play need to be based on the age of your children, but it doesn’t really matter what you play or how you do it. The important thing to remember is the fact that you’re spending time together as a family.

Some suggestions for games would be Monopoly, go fish, or Uno just to name a few. There are so many different games you can play, so it’s important you find one that is fun and interesting to your children. You may consider purchasing a new game each month so you have a variety to choose from. Another idea is to let your children take turns choosing the game and meal you have each time. Menu Monday – February 21

It’s Menu Monday again and as we did last week, the all of our meals are ones we’ve had before. We’re still trying to get a handle on Josh’s schedule for basketball. His games start next week so things will change once again. Hopefully we’ll have the entire months schedule before we go shopping so we have an idea of the number of easy and quick meals we’re going to need.

Here is our menu for the week.

Monday – Beef rolls
Tuesday – Chef Salad
Wednesday – Bacon Cheeseburgers with homemade fries
Thursday – Baked chicken with noodles
Friday – Take out
Saturday – Meatloaf
Sunday – FFYS night

It’s been a while since we did a FFYS (Fend For Yourself) night. The boys usually enjoy this night because they can have what they want and I like it because they fix it themselves. LOL Have you ever done this type of meal before? How did it work for you if you did?

Menu Monday – February 14

Monday is here again and that means it’s menu Monday. I’m excited about our meals this week. This week is mainly filled with old meals that we’ve had before. Josh starts basketball this week so it may be a challenge. We’ll just have to wait and see what the week brings so we have a better ea of what we need to plan for meals.

So here’s our menu for the week.

Monday – Roast with potatoes and carrots
Tuesday – Homemade pizza
Wednesday – Beefy Tomato Rice Skillet
Thursday – BBQ chicken and salad
Friday – Patty Melts with homemade fries
Saturday – Red enchilada skillet
Sunday – Breakfast

What will you have for dinners this week? As you know, we’re always looking for new meals to try. We don’t eat seafood and we’re looking for low carb meals. Please feel free to share your favorite meals with us in the comments.

To the Love of My Life!

Kevin, I have known you for 20+ years and you’re my best friend. We’ve been through it all I think. Some good and some bad, but none the less we’ve gone through everything.

I love you with all my heart and as many times as I’ve said it, there are NO words to describe how I feel for you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me and I don’t know where I’d be if I wouldn’t have met you 20+ years ago at Burger King.

I’m so glad I chose you that day and not the other person we were talking about. I’m so glad you put your phone number on that calculator tape and in my back pocket. I’m so thankful you stayed with me through my fits and bad tempers. I’m also thankful you stayed with me when I acted childish and through a fit. LOL

On this Valentine’s Day I want you to know how much I love you and how much I care for you. You are my best friend and I’m so glad I married you 17 ½ years ago. I love you Kevey!!

Is April Here Yet?

We’re planning a trip to Vegas and the best thing about it is we discovered on Saturday that the CMA’s are two days before we go. We’re so excited about this and we’re hoping we’ll see some of the famous country singers like Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Leann Rimes,or George Strait.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to see some of these famous people at the airport or in the casino’s? We told the boys they need to make sure they bring their cameras and have them with them all the time because you just never know when you’re going to see someone famous.

We’re also going to go to the Pawn Stars Pawn shop and we’re hoping to see the guys, but the boys and Kevin really want to see Chumlee. LOL! We’re not expecting to see them, but we can always hope, right?

We’re flying down there so that will be fun and a little nerve wracking, but I’m very excited about it. Kevin and I have flown a couple of times, but the boys have not, so it will be interesting to see how they react to it.

So needless to say, we’re pretty excited for April to get here so we can go to Vegas and spend a weekend together as a family.

Clumpy Hot Chocolate – Yuck!

Last week the weather here was not desirable at all. There were several days where the temperature during the day was not above -5* F and even more where the night temperatures were far below -20* F. Now that’s cold. So needless to say I was drinking a lot of hot chocolate so I could stay warm.

I made a post on Twitter about how I hated it when I made hot chocolate and it was clumpy. I asked my followers if they had any tips that I could try to get rid of those nasty clumps. I had several responses to that post and one that worked. I was so happy when I made my hot chocolate and it was clump free.

So the trick is to use a fork and pour the water into your cup slowly. Who would have ever thought a fork would do the trick, but it most certainly did and I have enjoyed clump free hot chocolate since. This wonderful tip came from my friend and fellow business owner LaTara Ham-Ying.

So thank you so much LaTara for helping me to have clump free hot chocolate.

Tips for Fun Valentine’s Day Cards

Valentine’s Day is a special time of year for elementary school kids. In most schools they have a party that consists of handing out Valentine’s Day cards and then eating sweets and playing games or watching a movie. It’s a fun time for all the children and it’s a good way for the parents to come to the classroom and watch their children have a good time.

One of the best parts of Valentine’s Day is the cards you hand out to all of your friends. The easiest way to handle these cards is to go to the store and purchase a box of cards with your child’s favorite cartoon character on them. Adding the names will be the easy part and that’s if your child decides to do that. He may decide to put his name on them and hand them out as he goes.

If you choose to do the cards you purchase at the store, you can still attach a piece of candy to the card or you can include it in the envelope if they come with them. These candies can be just about anything you’d like them to be and the kids will just love them.

If you want to have a little fun with the holiday, you can go to the store and purchase goodie bags and fill them with fun things that the kids will enjoy. You can put a card in each one or have your child make them and use a ribbon to attach it to the outside of the bag. You can also include candy, a Valentine’s Day pencil, a fun eraser, and a cookie.

Another fun thing you can do with Valentine’s Day cards is to help your child to create their own cards. You can do this with a program or you can come up with it on your own using a Paint program. The best thing to do is to figure out what the size needs to be so you can have four cards to a page and that way you’ll be able to easily print them. You can add picture, some words, your child’s name, and the name of the person that’s going to get the card. This is a great way to allow your child to be creative on this special holiday.

Kids love Valentine’s Day mainly because of the candy that they get from their friends and family. When you allow your children to be creative with the cards they give to their family and friends they’ll enjoy it even more and that’s a wonderful feeling for them.

Super Bowl Sunday

Today is Super Bowl Sunday and we’ll have a celebration at church this morning. After service we have a cake auction and then a chili dinner. This has been something we’ve done for a number of years and it’s a lot of fun.

The cake auction is the most fun. People in the congregation bring home made cakes to church and we pay ridicules prices for these cakes. This is the time when people donate to the youth group and children’s church. Some of these cakes will go for several hundred dollars.

The chili dinner is a great time to fellowship with others and eat great food. We have all the fixins including cheese, onions, Frito’s, and salad to number a few. There are so many different types of chili that people bring and it’s all great.

Chris decided he wanted to make the cake we’d take this year. So we let him have full run of the cake and he had fun. The cake turned out wonderfully and I’ve included a picture of it below.

Well I hope you all enjoy the game later today. Great job on the cake today Chris. I just love it!
